According to Christian lore when God was walking through the Garden of Eden after the Creation, He noticed a small blue flower and asked its name. Another legend tells of a young man and his sweetheart that were walking along beside the Danube. They saw some blue flowers growing on an island in the river. Disregarding the strong current and the protests of the girl, he jumped into the river and swam off toward the island. He crossed safely, plucked the flowers and headed back. He was almost back to the bank, when he could no longer fight the surge of the rapids. With his last bit of strength, he flung the bouquet at her feet and called out, 'Forget me not!', then disappeared. She never forgot him, and wore the flowers in her hair until her own death.
